Q: What is the HPD controls package?
A: The HPD controls package includes an ECU, engine harness, and sensors for a complete standalone engine installation. The ECU is not tunable but rather an HPD developed unit geared toward motorsport usage. HPD has used its vast experience with the K20C1 to provide a package that is powerful and reliable in a wide range of conditions with motorsport derived failsafe functions, and diagnostic reporting
Q: Is this product street legal?
A: The engine and controls package are not street legal and must only be used in off-highway settings where is it legal to do so. Owners of the engine and package are responsible for following all regulations associated with engine operation.
Q: Is there a warranty?
A: There is no warranty on this product.
Q: Where can I purchase the controls package and an engine?
A: The HPD controls package will be available through licensed HPD dealers. Dealer information can be found at hpd.honda.com. Contact a dealer for additional information on purchasing a package.
Q: When will the parts be available?
A: Controls packages with engines will be available starting May 1, 2021. There will be a total of 93 controls packages available for the life of the program. Engines may also be purchased separately.
Q: Can I purchase the controls package by itself to use on my own engine?
A: The controls package will only be available with the purchase of a new engine.
Q: How hard is it to install?
A: The Controls package wiring harness is designed to be as easy to install as possible in a wide range of applications. The wiring harness includes its own fuse and relay box to simplify wiring. A wiring pigtail connector is included to help make the required connections.
Q: Are there any transmission options available?
A: The accompanying Honda Civic Type-R transmission is available through HPD or your local Honda dealer for transverse drivetrain layouts. For rear wheel drive installations, reach out to an HPD dealer for information on available products.
Q: What else will I need?
A: The engine is available as a complete long block. You will need to supply supporting systems specific to the vehicle including an airbox and filter, intercooler and plumbing, turbo back exhaust, cooling system, and fuel supply. Finally, you will need a flywheel and clutch specific to your choice of transmission. The Controls package installation manual will provide additional specifications to help guide the design of the supporting systems. HPD can supply parts from its Touring Car and Open Wheel programs, and HPD dealers can assist with their own unique applications or custom-made parts.
